Larry Gazaway, 3rd Grade Teacher at BES, received a surprise phone call from Dr. Randy Watson, Kansas Commissioner of Education on January 11, 2024. Watson informed Mr. Gazaway and his group of students that he had been selected as a Kansas Horizon Award Winner!
The Kansas Horizon Award Program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, identifies and recognizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state.
There are only 32 Horizon Award Winners selected each year in Kansas. The award goes to 2nd year teachers who are giving their "heart and soul" early in their teaching career to kids!
