6th Grade Science
Science Rules!!!
by Pete Proctor
Welcome to Louisburg Middle School!!!

I hope you are as excited as I am to start a fresh year. I am sure that if you come prepared to learn and work hard, then you will have a fantastic year!
We will be studying a number of different topics this year including:
-astronomy
-electricity/magnetism
-properties of matter
-motion and forces
-famous scientists
-weather
-and many other topics
In all areas, we will be using the skills of scientific inquiry. As such, we will be doing many experiments that require extremely responsible behavior. If you, in any way, demonstrate to me that you cannot handle the responsibility of working with others in a group setting there will be alternative course studies provided. This alternative will usually involve more “book work” and, most likely, be far less enjoyable…
Classroom Rules and Procedures:
This is our classroom. We are responsible for our own actions and for creating an environment where learning is the ultimate goal! In order to do this, there are some basic rules that we will follow in this classroom. They are as follows:
1. All Louisburg Middle School Rules (the “code” in the handbook) apply in this classroom.
2. Mr. Proctor is ultimately in charge of the classroom at all times.
3. Respect yourself and others at all times.
4. Raise your hand if you want to speak or leave your seat.
5. Know and follow all other classroom procedures.
We will take the time to make sure that everyone is familiar with the rules and procedures for this classroom.
Procedures Continued
-Agendas. A list of the classroom events will be posted on the chalkboard daily. It is your job to copy that information into your Student Agendas at the beginning of class. When entering this information, you will practice organization and learn responsibility that will help you to be more prepared for school success. This also provides your parents with information as to what is being learned/required in the classroom. Agendas are often graded or checked for extra credit points.
-Daily Work. After completing the agenda, you will find an assignment on the board called, “Daily Science.” Begin working on this short assignment after you have completed copying down the agenda for the day. “Daily Science” is graded work that can only be completed during the beginning of class and cannot be made up. Daily Science worksheets will be provided for you weekly.
-Class begins when the bell rings! At that time, you need to be in your seat and working quietly! Those who are not in their seat and working quietly will be marked tardy. This includes sharpening pencils, getting supplies ready, etc. The student handbook describes consequences for repeating tardies on page 9.
-Whether you are working in a group of by yourself, you are required to be on task at all times. If you are “slacking off,” do not think that you will receive the same grade as someone who is working hard when doing a group project.
-You may use pencil or pen in this class.
-You will only get 4 passes to leave the room from me per semester; use them wisely.
-Always have a book to read!!!
