Book 2

This course is an extension of the sixth grade Language Arts class. The students will concentrate on understanding sentence structure and improving sentence clarity, unity, and revision. They will look at sentences as they relate to grammatical rules and punctuation. Students will become familiar with narrative, expository, technical, and persuasive writing; the six-trait writing process will be used for writing projects. Vocabulary and spelling will also be integrated into the curriculum.

The Code We Live By in
Miss Guetterman’s Grade Language Arts Class

1. We have respect for one another and ourselves.
2. We are on time to class and ready to work when the bell rings.
3. We don’t chew gum or eat candy, because it can be really messy.
4. We stay in our seats until the bell rings.
5. We do our own work at all times, and we don’t share our work with our neighbors.

HOMEWORK:
6. Write the following on the LEFT side of your notebook paper (in this order): Line 1- First and Last Name, Line 2- Teacher’s Name & Hour, Line 3- Assignment, Line 4- Date. No Name Papers = No Points (even if you claim it at a later date).
7. Your homework should be written neatly and in cursive, unless you have made arrangements with Miss Guetterman.
8. Your homework will usually be due at the beginning of class.
9. Hand in your assignments on time. Late Work Policy – 1 day late = 50% credit, 2+ days late = 5% credit. Please place all late work in the late work basket. All work should be turned in by the end of each quarter. Each quarter, you will receive a homework pass; use your homework passes wisely. (Passes may not be used on tests, quizzes, vocabulary units, projects, speeches, etc.)

ABSENCES:
10. Have your admit slip ready if you were absent.
11. If you are absent from class because of a school-related function or extra-curricular activity, you will need to get your assignments before you leave.
12. When you return from an excused absence, it is your responsibility to check the homework folder. Your name will be written on the assignment. You have one day for every day you were absent to make up your work. Please be aware of your due dates.
