Two places to start can give you all kinds of information about a current issue, such as
immigration, abortion, the Iraq War:

CQ Researcher is an online subscription database which provides a 12,000 word analysis of today's new issues. If it is in the news, it's in CQ Researcher.

This collection of databases has 4 components that provide articles and websites from selected sources. SIRS researcher is great for current social/ethical/health issues providing both news and perspectives from a variety of credible sources.

The state library of Kansas provides a number of databases, free of charge and open to Kansas residents with a Kansas Library Card. Some databases can also be accessed by Clicking here. The most useful to high school students are:

Infotrac: provides journal and periodical articles on a variety of topics.

Literature Resource Center: provides criticisms, plot summaries, character analyses.

Heritage Quest:provides geneology and census information dating back to 1790.
